when elvis died i was only 17
[i remember working my shift at consumers distributing
when i heard the news]
he is absolutely the "king of rock 'n roll"

michael jackson
on the other, is my age, less than a year older than me
his death and tragic life
is much more part of my own
he is truly the "king of pop"
and has left an indelible impression on modern music
especially as it pertains to showmanship

you know what really pisses me off?
when common folk eat slop from the media's trough:
i dont really know who killed JFK
or marilyn monroe for that matter
[it is a real bummer, that they both died so young]
and i sure as hell dont give a shit whether OJ did it
but what i do know for sure, is that i do not know
exactly what went on in michael jackson's personal life
so i for one (among many) am not gonna pass judgement

he was obviously a very troubled man
and his family is going to miss him dearly
i think all those people who gladly pass along
crass MJ jokes (for example)
should consider how they would feel
if the brunt of their guffaw is a friend or relative

just as "if you dont have anything good to say
...dont say anything"
if you dont have all the facts
...keep your big fuckin mouth shut!!

as was pointed out today at his memmorial service
he made some bad choices in life
but it is just as possible that he acted inappropriately
with these child friends as it is that these kid's parents
jumped on the money train
either way i'm deeply grieved

anyhoo

i celebrate his music and good intentions
mourn the waste of his life
and ponder how easily things could have turned out better
